Dr. Eddy

Dr. Michael Eddy

Dr. Michael Eddy is in his nineteenth year as principal, currently serving as the inaugural principal at Dove Creek Middle School. Prior to opening DCMS, Dr. Eddy was principal at Bridge Middle School, High Shoals Elementary and Smith-Barnes Elementary. Before becoming a principal, he served for five years as Coordinator for Fine Arts in Henry County. Under Dr. Eddy’s leadership, Malcom Bridge Middle (2022) and High Shoals Elementary (2017) have been named Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence, being recognized at the highest designation level of Lighthouse Schools. As Coordinator for Fine Arts, he oversaw the operation of all fine arts programs for forty-three schools and started the strings program in all Henry County middle and high schools. 

Dr. Eddy began his teaching career as a band director, having served as the Director of Bands at Jonesboro High School, Forest Park High School, and Riverwood High School. Dr. Eddy received his Ed.D. from the University of Georgia, M.Ed. from the State University of West Georgia, and B.M.E. from Stetson University. 

Dr. Eddy is a volunteer firefighter and emergency medical responder with Oconee County Fire Rescue. Additionally, he is an active member of the Oconee County Rotary Club and treasurer for the M and K Foundation as well as the Southern Crescent Symphony.

Vaughn

Dr. Lisa Vaughn

Dr. Lisa Vaughn is honored to serve as an Assistant Principal at Dove Creek Middle School. A native of Commerce, Dr. Vaughn is a proud graduate of Commerce High School. She obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Berry College in 1998 and attended graduate school at The University of Georgia, earning a Master of Education degree in 2001 and Doctor of Education degree in 2004. Dr. Vaughn taught Family and Consumer Sciences at the high school level for seven years and was named Commerce High and Commerce City Schools Teacher of the Year in 2001. 

Dr. Vaughn joined the Oconee County School System in 2005 as the Director of Secondary Education and CTAE. She moved to Oconee County High School in 2008 and served as Assistant Principal of Instruction for six years. She was named GASSP Assistant Principal of the Year in 2014. Dr. Vaughn proudly served as an Assistant Principal at Malcom Bridge Middle for nine years and is excited to be a part of the inaugural faculty at DCMS.

Dr. Vaughn is a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church and is active in the music and women's ministries.

Thomas

Mrs. Lisa B. Thomas

Mrs. Lisa Boyd Thomas is entering her 17th year in the field of education.  A graduate of Heritage High School in Conyers, GA, she returned to Rockdale County to begin her teaching career as a high school English teacher as well as soccer and basketball coach.  As a second year teacher, Mrs. Thomas was named the Rockdale County High School Teacher of the Year as well as a county finalist.  Throughout her career, Mrs. Thomas has taught at Lincoln Middle School in Santa Monica, California, and also was a Lead Teacher at Animo Inglewood Charter High School in Los Angeles, CA.  Upon returning to Georgia, she joined the original staff at North Oconee High School in 2004. One of her fondest memories is  starting the girls' soccer program at NOHS. In 2015, Mrs. Thomas began working at Malcom Bridge Middle School as a 7th grade Language Arts teacher.  She also took on the role of reading intervention specialist and taught Read 180. In addition to her teaching duties, Mrs. Thomas was a  Co-Chair for the MTSS Committee and was a member of the MBMS Leadership Team.  Furthermore, she was honored to be named the 2018-2019 MBMS Teacher of the Year.

Mrs. Thomas is extremely humbled and grateful for the opportunity to be a member of the Dove Creek Middle School family in its inaugural year. After teaching in the classroom for 16 years, she is stepping into a new role as Assistant Principal.  She has a B.A. in English from Presbyterian College where she was a four-year letterman in soccer as well as team captain and All-SAC Conference.  She later earned her M.Ed. in Administration and Policy from the University of Georgia.

In her free time, Mrs. Thomas loves spending time with her family: husband--Alan-- and her 4 children-- Izzy, Captain, Alex, and Mara.  She also enjoys reading mystery novels, cooking anything Italian, and exercising with her dog, Gracie.
